JUNNA’S STORY
ELECTRIC VIOLIN, SWEEPING SYNTHS AND STADIUM-STYLE DRUMS
Junna is an electro-folk duo that Juha Seppänen and Anna Haaraoja founded in 2019. Junna wraps folk traditions in the colours of electronic music genres, from trance to hardstyle and drum’n’bass. Their sound combines an electric violin with sweeping synths and pounding stadium-style drums that bring folk-lovers and ravers into the same dance circle.
Hailing from Central Othrobothnia, Anna is a classically trained singer and violinist who lost her heart to folk music. From the small town of Suomussalmi, Juha, on the other hand, is a Master of Techno Arts who, as a child, discovered his older brother’s eurodance collection and knew exactly what he wanted to do when he grew up.
Junna has released six singles, one EP, and two albums. Their latest album Aena rankkoo, released in March 2025, has received airplay on both Finnish and international radio stations, continuing the duo’s vision of high-energy, beat-driven folk music. In 2025 Junna started collaborating with the much-awaited videogame Road to Vostok, which has brought the duo global visibility.
The duo has performed widely across Finland – including Kaustinen Folk Music Festival, Qstock, and Folklandia – and made their international debut in Bourges, France in 2024. In 2025, on their tour in Japan, Junna showcased Finnish heritage by performing their own gigs and having Finnish folk dance workshops in collaboration with Folk Show Crew.
Junna represents living heritage – music filled with emotive melodies, wild electronic beats and a touch of Finnish melancholy.
